We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Needham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

The San Diego trio—Dawson Daugherty, Cole Clisby and Luke Fabry—has generated millions of streams to date, sold out shows, and crafted their debut EP don’t say you’re ordinary in Brooklyn and Los Angeles with producers Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac) and Simon Oscroft.
"It was the right song at the time, the right feel and sound,” Mark Needham says. The veteran mixer and producer, whose clients have included Fleetwood Mac and Shakira, mixed “Mr. Brightside.” “It was just so aggressive and punk and indie, but with such a big pop chorus. It kind of pushed all those buttons.”
Mark Needham, the studio mixer and producer whose mile-long list of credits include best-selling albums by The Killers, P!nk and Imagine Dragons, has announced the creation of E.O.M. Records (Evolution of Man), an artist development extension and record label. E.O.M.'s first order of business is pairing with Hollywood Records/Disney Music Publishing to break alt-pop band Almost Monday.
The band members weren’t the only ones falling back into the fold as Mark Needham was brought back to co-produce and mix the song. Known for his work with the Killers, Imagine Dragons, Fleetwood Mac and more, Needham worked on & Then Boom ten years ago.
Vulture: we spoke with nine prominent mix engineers in a number of genres about the toughest songs they tackled - Mark Needham Walk the Moon, “Anna Sun”: It was a breakthrough song for Walk the Moon and really set them up for their second album. I really wanted to knock it out of the park for them, and I think we got there.

MM: Your origin story has been told time and time again — booking shows in the back of surf shops until you broke through with Mark Needham. Does this sudden rise in starpower (for yourself and the collaborations y’all have) make you feel any pressure in releasing this EP?
am: Definitely no pressure. I think we’re just doing what comes natural to us and making music that we love.

What was it like to work with Mark Needham and how did that relationship develop?
We basically just looked up who mixed our favorite records (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac) and came across Mark’s name. We sent him an email and he ended up driving down from LA to San Diego to see us play a show. Mark is one of the greatest and most genuine people in the music industry. It’s always an honor to have his ear on something.
Almost Monday, Broken People - This trio went from performing in the back of a surf shop to working with Mark Needham who has been in the studio with both The Killers and Imagine Dragons. I kinda feel that this song is going to be a hit.

Josh: What do you see as the primary payoffs of the teamwork that went into achieving this record?
Iration: And also Mark Needham and Will Brierre, who have been our main mix engineers over the last few years. [They] really understand our sound and what we?re going for in general.
When the band made their official announcement of the Hollywood Park album, they were quick to credit their secret ally: 11x Grammy nominated producer, Mark Needham.

Let's switch gears a bit and go into the MAN Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a record mixer / producer but what sets me (and my business) apart (and what I am most proud of) would be the artist development side/component of my business. It's exciting to me, to find an unsigned band/artist and see the artist grow when given the opportunity.
In the studio, the quintet (Iration) worked with a variety of mix engineers including Jimmy Douglass, Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac, The Killers), Nico Marzouca and Rob Marks and Lars Stalfors to punch up certain tracks.
San Diego-based band almost monday got their start playing self-booked shows in their hometown, soon drawing a rabid following on the strength of their larger-than-life energy and sing-along-ready anthems. (They are now) collaborating with Mark Needham (an engineer/mixer/producer known for his work with The Killers and Imagine Dragons).

Since forming in 2015, best friends cole clisby (guitar), dawson daugherty (vocals), and luke fabry (bass) have gone from performing in the back room of a local surf shop to collaborating with Mark Needham.
Working mostly with producer Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac, The Killers, Chris Isaak), Jackson says all three parts are recorded. Each will feature five songs but Jackson says he may expand on Part 3 since they have more time now.

Once (almost monday) built up a body of work, almost monday tracked down Mark Needham online and emailed him an invitation to an upcoming gig, a shot-in-the-dark move that ended up forging a close musical partnership. Soon enough, Needham connected the band with producer Simon Oscroft, who helped them create their first batch of recordings.
Now, Almost Monday is signed with Hollywood Records and collaborated with Mark Needham, an engineer/mixer/producer known for his work with The Killers and Imagine Dragons. Their sound is very nu-disco with surf rock tones...
